Madhubani or Mithila painting is a style of painting that is practised in the Mithila region of Nepal and India. The painting is characterized by its eye-catching geometrical patterns. Mithila painting or Bhitti Chitra was discovered in 1934 when an earthquake hit Bihar. The British officer of the Madhubani district was William G Archer who then stumbled upon these paintings on the interior walls of the homes while examining the damage caused by earthquakes.
