Painting: Lanka Kand - Agni Pariksha

Description

This an acrylic on canvas painting by artist Bharat Tripathi that depicts the episode from the Ramayana where Sita was put through 'agnipariksha' or trial by fire. One can see Sita with her hands folded at the centre of the picture flanked by flames on both sides. The vermillion on her forehead stands out against the bright red background as a testament to her purity. This is an episode from the Lanka Kand or the sixth chapter of the Ramayana.
