Untitled II
Description
A single, commanding form occupies the surface, its body unfolding through intricate Gond patterning that transforms contour into pulse. Whether animal, bird or composite being, the figure is built from within: scales, dots and rhythmic line clusters fill the silhouette with dense, deliberate movement. The outline remains clear and assured, holding the internal complexity in disciplined balance. There is no extraneous background; the open ground intensifies the presence of the central form.
Colour operates with restraint and clarity. Contrasting tones—deep reds, forest greens, indigo blues or warm ochres—define structural zones within the body, while fine linear repetition animates each section. The result is neither flat nor illusionistic; instead, it exists in a charged space where pattern becomes energy and surface becomes structure. The eye moves steadily across the figure, tracing its internal rhythms before returning to its unified whole.
Narmada Prasad Tekam, a significant contemporary voice within the Gond tradition of Madhya Pradesh, extends inherited visual grammar into bold, singular compositions. Working in acrylic on canvas or paper, he treats repetition as both discipline and devotion, allowing the accumulation of marks to build presence. Untitled II stands as a refined expression of this approach—an artwork where form, pattern and tradition converge into a concentrated field of visual strength.
