Terracotta Craft Experience
Hosted by
Sanjay Muduli
About this experience
This experience invites you into the world of terracotta, a craft shaped by earth, fire and steady practice. At the studio of national awardee Sanjay Muduli the session begins with an insight into terracotta’s long presence in daily life, from ancient objects to its continued relevance today. Clay is prepared with calm precision before it’s shaped into forms that reflect both tradition and personal expression. Sanjay demonstrates each stage with the ease of someone who has worked with the medium for over twenty five years. A handmade terracotta piece is created during the session, revealing how simple clay turns into something meaningful through patience and careful guidance. What it Covers • An introduction to the cultural and historical role of terracotta in Odisha and beyond • A look at clay preparation, shaping methods and the natural properties of the material • Insight into traditional hand building techniques used to form clean, balanced structures • Exposure to refining and texturing approaches that give terracotta its characteristic finish • An understanding of how terracotta continues to evolve in contemporary craft practice
