Mata Ni Pachedi Painting Experience
Hosted by
Kirit Chitara
About this experience
This experience takes you into the world of Mata Ni Pachedi, a textile tradition that carries devotion, detail and history in every line. In the Ahmedabad workspace of Kirit Chitara the process begins on plain cloth that slowly turns into a surface filled with figures, patterns and stories. The craft is rooted in ritual and once served as a portable shrine for communities who painted their gods when temples were out of reach. Participants observe how outlines are drawn with steady hands, how natural colours settle into place and how motifs grow scene by scene. A small Mata Ni Pachedi inspired motif is created during the session. The pace is slow and grounding, revealing how this textile form holds both artistic clarity and spiritual memory. What It Covers: An introduction to Mata Ni Pachedi where cloth, hand drawn outlining and natural colours come together to form narrative compositions Guided practice in drawing simple motifs and filling them with traditional pigments Insight into the cultural and spiritual roots of this textile art and its significance in Gujarat’s artistic history Time to observe the artist’s work and understand how figures, borders and stories build the final piece A take home cloth painting created using authentic methods learned during the session
