Depicting a Scene from Ramcharitmanas Through Phad Painting

Presented by St. Edmunds School, Jaipur as a part of Phad Se Padh initiative

Participant’s Experience

Phad painting is an art form from Rajasthan done on a long piece of cloth or canvas. This is accompanied by a musical arrangement and beautiful lyrics. This art conveys a deep religious message regarding deities. There are many subtle nuances that collectively build it as a narrative tale.

The theme chosen by the school was an excerpt from the Ramcharitmanas. Working on the ‘Phad se Padh’ project, students came to know about the importance of patience, time management, planning, and organisation. It gave a turning point to their creative skills and enhanced their knowledge of mythological stories. In addition, this project helped them enhance their knowledge of colour schemes, brush techniques, knowledge of materials and dexterity in a creative and innovative way.
