Coffee Painting Workshop With Divya Chandak
There are people who drink coffee and then there are artists who create mesmerizing paintings with it. In ancient European times, colours were not a medium for painting, and people primarily used coffee to paint. Coffee gives an artistic look and great fragrance while painting. To learn more about this art, The Rooftop Community conducted a workshop with Divya Chandak.
About The Artist
Divya is a freelance artist and is currently a student. She has been passionate about drawing since childhood. During the lockdown, she thought of diving into this new art form, Coffee Painting. She started exploring this art form and tried creating different designs and all that practice made her artwork more attractive. Since then, her work has inspired many others to try their hand at coffee painting.
The Workshop Began
At first, Divya showed a replica of the painting they were going to work on so that everyone gets a basic idea. She chose to draw a butterfly for the session as it is an easy yet detailed design. Since coffee gives a single brown colour, Divya began by teaching how to make four different shades with coffee. From darker to lighter shades, she directed the use of coffee and water percentages to achieve perfect shades.
On a watercolour sheet, she started painting by giving the borders a dark shade and highlighting the other portions with lighter shades. To avoid granular pieces in the painting, she advised everyone to keep a cloth in hand and wipe the brushes frequently. The second wing was an abstract-like wing that was made by spray painting coffee. Finally, to secure the coffee paint from getting damaged, she brushed a layer of boric powder on it.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
Each of the attendees presented their drawings and spoke well about the others. Divya too displayed some of her previously drawn fascinating work that was made with coffee painting.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
