You need a fist-sized ball of shaadu or modelling clay, a toothpick and a damp cloth.
- Roll a large ball for the belly and a smaller one for the head, and press them together.
- Roll a sausage for the trunk and curl it to one side.
- Add flat ear discs, four small arms and a modak in one hand.
- Smooth the joins with a wet finger and dry it in shade for a day.
2. Make Modaks

An adult cooks the filling: grated coconut and jaggery, stirred five minutes on low heat. Children flatten rice-flour dough into a cup, spoon in the filling and pinch pleats to a point. Steam for 10–12 minutes.

4. Decorate A Platform For The Idol
If you have already carved an organic idol, you will need a platform to place it to worship. Let your kids don their creative hats and decorate the pedestal for the idol. The kids will enjoy this process of DIYing the entire Ganeshotsav this year.

6. Decorate an aarti thali
Use a steel or brass plate, or a paper plate. Glue rice dyed with turmeric and kumkum, or stick on dried flower petals.
