About the Artist

Bhajju Shyam is one of the most celebrated contemporary Gond artists from Madhya Pradesh, known for transforming traditional Gond storytelling into striking modern visual narratives. Born in the Pardhan Gond community of Patangarh village, Bhajju Shyam learned painting under the guidance of his uncle and legendary Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam, who played a pivotal role in bringing Gond art to the global stage. Carrying forward this legacy, Bhajju developed his own distinctive style rooted in tradition yet deeply personal and imaginative.

His work is inspired by nature, folklore, animals, forests, and everyday life, interpreted through intricate patterns, rhythmic lines, and vibrant colors. Each painting tells a story — often blending memory, imagination, and cultural symbolism. He is particularly known for depicting animals and urban life in unique ways, where even machines, cities, and buildings take on organic, living forms.

Bhajju Shyam gained international recognition with his acclaimed book “The London Jungle Book”, where he illustrated his experiences of London through Gond visual language. The book received global appreciation and introduced Gond art to new audiences worldwide. His artworks have since been exhibited in India and internationally, and are part of prominent museum and private collections.

Through his practice, Bhajju Shyam continues to preserve and evolve Gond art while mentoring younger artists from his community. His workshops offer participants an opportunity to explore storytelling through patterns, understand Gond symbolism, and create their own narrative-based artwork in an authentic and approachable way.
