Yoga Session With Varsha Gujar

Yoga Session: Practicing yoga regularly builds great strength and relaxes the body. It has 5000-year-old roots in India. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’ which means ‘to integrate’. There are more than 100 different yoga forms which include breathing exercises, meditation, and asanas. Along with physical benefits, there are multiple mental benefits of doing yoga. These include stress management, relaxing the mind, prolonged attention span, and sharpening concentration. For Varsha Gujar, yoga session is all about harmonizing the body and mind connection and believing in yourself. 

The beginning of the workshop 

According to Varsha, yoga session is something that a person can include in their daily life. Unlike the gym, it doesn’t require any special setup. The workshop began with a yoga prayer which helped participants to clear their thoughts and relax their bodies. Her in-depth knowledge of yoga showed the participants how they can correctly join their hands in the namaste pose. She also mentioned the benefits of joining the hands together.

After the prayer, it was now time to warm up the body: Softening the stiffness and letting the blood flow. These warm-ups include stretching of torso muscles, rotation of wrist and neck. 

Once all the participants did the warm-up, the first asana that Varsha taught was Surya Namaskar (also popularly known as the sun salutation). It is a combination of 12 different poses. Also, a lot of celebrities including Kareena Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty religiously practice it. Our participants were quite reluctant to try these asanas. As most of them were beginners, Varsha made sure to answer each of their queries patiently. She also explained the benefit of each pose in Surya Namaskar.

Towards the end of the workshop

Apart from Surya Namaskar, there were four different yoga poses taught by Varsha. Each targetted a different muscle group making it a full-body workout. Apart from yoga, consuming a healthy and mindful diet is key to the fit body. Varsha’s balanced diet includes consuming locally grown food along with processed treats that have restricted consumption. Before concluding the session, Varsha also gave a solution to common problems like backache, soreness, and irregular periods. The yoga session ended on a positive note with the closing prayer and chanting OM.
