Warli Art On Fabric Workshop: Found in the North Sahyadri Range of Maharashtra, Warli art is a lifestyle representation of the Warli tribal community. The concept of Mother Nature and elements of nature are depicted in Warli painting. These paintings were traditionally done on the clay walls of the houses. But in the contemporary art world, they can be drawn on any fabric. Rooftop curated a Warli art on fabric workshop and invited Jigna Nirav Daftary. She has a knack for trying different art forms.
The Warli Art On Fabric Workshop Began
The workshop began with Jigna explaining the Warli design on the cotton tote bag. All 40 participants were eager to learn the Warli art. They bombarded Jigna with queries regarding the use of different fabrics like silk and jute instead of cotton to draw the warli art. She patiently responded to all their queries while drawing a traditional warli border and warli human figures on the bag. She also shared insights on how to differentiate between a male and a female warli figure.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
As the warli tribe is close to mother nature, Jigna also taught how to draw trees. Once the drawing was complete, Jigna began adding colours to it. Giving a contemporary touch to traditional art, she suggested attendees fill their artwork with bright colours instead of monochrome. Towards the end of the workshop, she also shared tips on sustaining colour on the fabric despite regular washing. The circle members were extremely pleased with the workshop and flashed their colourful tote bags on the screen, while Jigna admired their wonderful work.
Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
