Tikuli is a type of hand painting and its history spread over 800 years. The painting with its modern evolution and varied manifestations finds its origin in Patna, Bihar. Tikuli is the term that is locally used for bindis, which are colourful dots that women wear as accessories between their eyebrows. The bindi has been a symbol of the intellectual capacity of the feminine for time immemorial. In contemporary Bihar, it serves as a symbol of empowerment for women.

About The Artist

Jayshree Mahapatra is from Bangalore and turned her hobby into a passion and worked with many mediums of art.

The Workshop Began

Jayshree greeted all the participants and thanked the host for the lovely introduction. She first started drawing the sketch of the Tikuli art on her canvas. She continued to paint them in shades of yellow, blue, green and red. Mahapatra painted the circle in golden colour painted the background in black colour and outlined the portrait in white colour giving it an artistic touch by making the dots.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Jayshree made beautiful and colourful Tikuli art as it looked artistic and colourful. All the participants appreciated her artistic skills and showed their co-created Tikuli Art she appreciated everyone’s artwork and was pleased. The host thanked Jayshree for teaching Tikuli.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
