Tie & Dye Workshop: The process of tie-dye consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by the application of dye. The final outcome is always irregular yet beautiful. To experience this innovative technology around the spiritual Navratri week, Rooftop curated a Navratri Special Tie-Dye Workshop and invited Vidhi Sanghrajka, who is an architect by profession yet an art lover at heart. She is a self-learned artist and loves to experiment with colour. To uphold her love for art, she started with her venture, Impressions Art, which deals with private and corporate gifting. 

The Tie & Dye Workshop Began

All the 30 participants were all dressed in bright yellow outfits, as yellow was the colour of the day. Vidhi began the experience by explaining all the materials required and also shared some very useful information to make natural dye from ingredients at home, which fascinated all the attendees. She quickly explained the Shibori and Leheriya techniques and then began demonstrating the same. Vidhi dampened the fabric, folded it and tied it using thread at equal intervals. All the attendees tried making their own samples along with Vidhi.

Vidhi then applied the natural Haldi dye prepared with Haldi and water. The attendees were curious about how to fix the colour, which Vidhi answered very promptly while applying the dye to the fabric and suggested some helpful alternatives.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

She mentioned a very useful tip at the beginning of the experience that helped towards the end, she said, Do not cut the thread in between which will make it easy to open later

Vidhi demonstrated the process of opening up the tied fabrics. All the attendees cut open the threads and had some irregular beautiful textured fabrics. The attendees excitedly showed to Vidhi their creations over the camera. It was an exuberant and knowledgeable experience amidst the Navratri festivities. 

The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
