The word ‘Pichwai’ has its roots in Sanskrit. While ‘pich’ refers to ‘behind’, ‘wai’ means ‘hanging’. It is a traditional art form that emerged in the 17th Century at the Nathdwara temple in Rajasthan. Pichwais are intricate paintings dedicated to Shrinathji and are typically hung behind the idol of the deity in local shrines. The hand-painted artworks celebrate the different moods and expressions of Lord Krishna, and mostly depict temple rituals like the adornment of Shri Krishna.
To make this art form popular among art lovers, The Circle Community organized a detailed and interactive workshop on Pichwai Art with expert artist Richa Dwivedi.
About The Artist
Richa Dwivedi is a folk and DIY artist. She showcases her artwork on Instagram and has a colorful feed. She shares her expertise with art lovers through workshops.
The Workshop Began
The workshop started off with a brief introduction of Richa and her journey as an artist. Richa warmly welcomed the attendees of the workshop and shared her experiences with them. She also gave an insight into the history and background of Pichwai Painting and then began creating artwork right from scratch.
Richa first started sketching the cow and a lotus flower. She then started coloring the canvas with yellow color and painted the lotus in pink color. She added some leaves to the painting in shades of green and further decorated it with light brown color. The artwork looked closely connected with nature.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
As the workshop progressed, Richa’s painting evolved into a bright and beautiful art piece. The attendees co-created their own paintings with her and showcased them to Richa, who appreciated their patience and creativity. The attendees were delighted to learn such beautiful art and thanked Richa for sharing it with them.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
