Pichwai (pichvai) is a style of painting that originated over 400 years ago, in the town of Nathdwara near Udaipur in Rajasthan. Intricate and visually stunning, pichwai paintings, made on cloth, depict tales from Lord Krishna’s life. Lord Krishna is often depicted as Shrinathji in Pichwais, which is the deity manifest as a seven-year-old child. Other common subjects found in pichwai paintings are Radha, gopis, cows and lotuses. Festivals and celebrations such as Sharad Purnima, Raas Leela, Annakoot or Govardhan Puja, Janmashtami, Gopashtami, Nand Mahotsav, Diwali and Holi are frequently depicted in Pichwais. Rooftop went a little creative and curated a Pichwai coasters workshop.

About The Artist

Shubham is a homemaker and artist by profession. She is from Kollam, Kerala. Art has been her passion since childhood.

The Pichwai Coasters Workshop Began

Shubham thanked the host for the lovely introduction. She first started drawing the lotus leaves on a coaster and started painting them with yellow colour. The lotus with pink in colour, green for the stem and leaves and created the outline of the lotus with white colour. She concluded the pichwai design by outlining all the flowers and leaves in black colour.

Towards The End Of The Pichwai Coasters Workshop

Shubham created beautiful colourful Pichwai Coasters using different shades of colours such as blue, yellow, dark green, pink, and red. She was delighted to see all the colourful artwork. All the attendees showed their colourful Pichwai Coasters to ShubhamThe host thanked Shubham for teaching this colourful workshop.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
