Scherenschnitte, which means scissor cut in German, is the art of paper cutting. It is used to prepare 3-D models of origami, paper cuts, paper folds, letters, and pop-cards. The Chinese were the first people to start this artwork. The Han Dynasty invented paper which gave birth to the art of cutting. Some of the most handmade items are made from paper cutting.
To make the Circle family aware of this creative art form, The Rooftop Community conducted a workshop on Paper Cutting with expert artist Khushboo Patel.
About The Artist
Khushboo is an architect hailing from Mumbai. She came across various arts such as paper cutting, pop-up cards, quilling, etc during her journey as an artist. She has been practicing the art of paper cutting for 8 years.
The Workshop Began
The workshop began with a brief introduction of Khushboo and her experiences as an artist. Khushboo was glad to be a part of the session and thanked the hosts and the participants heartily. She gave an insight into the art of paper cutting and then kickstarted the session.
Firstly, Khusboo explained the entire process of creating the artwork briefly. She started drawing a circle and added clouds, waves, and sun in it. After that, she traced the outlines on various color papers for the clouds, waves, and sun to have cut-outs ready. She used thick double tape to give a 3-D effect. The final artwork looked colorful.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
The artwork was a beautiful scene of sea waves. Khushboo addressed all the questions of the participants and shared some of her previous artworks. The attendees were delighted to learn the details about the art from her and co-created their own paper-cutting art.
The attendees were from different parts of the country and also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Rooftop community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
