Mud Art Workshop: Mud Art or Mirror Work, commonly known as Lippan Kaam is a traditional mural craft of Kutch. To experience this traditional art form for its Circle Members, Rooftop curated a Mud Art Workshop and invited Disha Teckchandani. She is an interior designer by profession, who is artsy at heart and loves to experiment with colour. She is an active art exhibit participant who lives by this quote, “The canvas is my world and I create my reality”.

The Mud Art Workshop Began

Disha started the experience by giving a  brief history of Mud Art. Disha began the workshop by drawing the lotus on canvas and demonstrated how to make the paste from the polymer clay to outline the lotus. She also suggested an alternative like using marble powder with Fevicol as a paste for the attendees who did not have the materials. The attendees worked on their lotus artworks alongside Disha. While making the border she also explained how to add the mirrors to the art piece. Then, Disha began to paint the border with golden acrylic colour, adding sheen and defining the piece. The attendees followed along these lines. To add the final finishing touches, Disha added a border to the canvas and decorated it with mirrors.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

By the end of the workshop, attendees successfully learnt a traditional art form in a contemporary way. They were curious to showcase their art pieces over the camera. Disha looked at each of their Lippan Art pieces and appreciated them. She also shared insights on modern ways to use the artwork for the festivities as decorative pieces. The overall experience was engrossing and educational. 

The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform.

Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
