Rooftop – Where India Inspires Creativity

Madhubani Art Workshop With Preethi Dineshkumar

Madhubani Art Workshop

Madhubani Art Workshop: Originating from the Mithila region, Madhubani Art Form is a spectacular geometrical painting with recurrent motifs such as fishes, birds, women, Lord Krishna, elephants and peacocks. It also applies the use of fingers, brushes, nib-pens, matchsticks and twig pens and natural dyes to the paintings.  To experience this ancient art form, Rooftop curated a Navratri Special Madhubani Art Workshop and invited Preeti Dineshkumar. A researcher turned Artist for her passion for art, she has been practising different art forms. She aims to transfer her knowledge about folk art to the next generation.

The Madhubani Art Workshop Began

Preeti began the session by narrating the Madhubani tale, she explained, in brief, the history of the art, about the Mithila village right from the Ramayana traces. Preeti mentioned in detail the motifs from nature like flowers, animals, and trees. She also explained the meaning of each motif while drawing, which made the experience more interesting. This left all the 30 attendees mesmerized. Then Preeti began to demonstrate an elephant on paper. She shared some useful tips to draw the elephant making it sound and look so easy. Finally, she moved to a Ceramic Mug and demonstrated how to draw the elephant using acrylic colour. All the attendees drew alongside Preeti and were very curious to show her. She explained all the intricate details and finished very patiently.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

The attendees left Preeti amazed with some of their paintings. She suggested some tweaks to enhance the style of the painting. Preeti appreciated all the efforts and the work of all the creative attendees, It was a very insightful experience for all.

All the attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform.

Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
