Lap Loom is a weaving art method named after its convenience, as it can fit in your lap. We can create a beautiful tapestry and many more designs. It is a peaceful form of art that can be mastered with patience and technique. To gain more knowledge about this art, The Circle community conducted a workshop with Saman.

About The Artist

Saman is a textile designer with a passion to illustrate prints, doodles, and getting her hands on abstract art journals and various crafts. She loves nature and floral designs, which is reflected in all her artworks. She studied textile designing and left her job to become a freelance designer. She has defined her journey as freedom of expression and opportunities that are endless, where the beginning is always the most difficult. But the hope and vision kept her motivated.

The Workshop Began

Saman decided to teach some basic styles of Lap Loom. For this, only a few items like cardboard, woolen yarns, and some threads are required. The cardboard was substituted for a loom as it seemed more convenient for beginners. She then helped them understand the approach to weaving and wrapped cotton threads both vertically and horizontally to create a base. She weaved the woolen yarns and gave suggestions along the way for the attendees to enhance their work.

To give the tapestry a sealed look, she tied some tassels to them. This was quite an easy step to follow through. She also showed some braid techniques which were a bit tricky to achieve. To finish off, she tied the loose ends in a knot. Many attendees tried to reciprocate the method and appreciated the tips given by Saman.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Once you get a hang of weaving, there are a lot of designs that can be created. Saman displayed some of her attractive tapestries to give a specimen of designs. Everyone was excited to see the output and thanked Saman for guiding them every step of the way.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
