Kohbar painting is a form of ritual painting in the Mithila region of Bihar, it is gifted to a newlywed couple as a blessing. The theme of these paintings is mostly love and prosperity.

To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form Rajasthan Studio curated a Kohbar Painting Workshop and invited Minal Sinha Srivastava.

Minal is an Indian Folkartist and Art Entrepreneur. She has lived in over 7 countries and traveled extensively. Her artistic style today is an amalgamation of diverse cultures and locales.

She is the founder of Yellow Frames Art Studio – an online art organization that conducts Art Workshops, Art Events, Art Training and Online Art Lessons for all art enthusiasts. 

Yellow Frames pursues art as therapeutic exercise to bring Happiness, Relaxation, Healing, and Stress Reduction and helps participants find another favorite hobby!

Minal has worked extensively with corporate and individuals creating art projects to help participants discover their individual, unique artistic styles.

Kohbar Painting Workshop Began

Kohbar painting is similar to madhubani painting. Minal displayed her paintings for reference. Furthermore, she said that without a few elements the kohbar painting does not get completed. For this session there will be different elements like bamboo, sun , moon, banana tree, peacock which are kohbar elements. Moving onward, Minal gave information about kohbar paintings. She started with the markings on the page and started drawing the structure and different elements of kohbar painting.Ideally the kohbar painting was made on a silk fabric. Kachni and bharni techniques are beautiful and artist shared some traditional information about it.

Artist made bamboo and a lotus design with intricate and beautiful patterns and textures.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

At the end of the workshop the artist showed and everyone enlightened the artist with their beautiful work where the artist gives a review of where they can improve. Also, displayed her other artworks and everyone enjoyed such a simple yet interesting workshop. The workshop was full of learning and everyone was elated by the experience.

The attendees seemed immersed in the workshop and thanked Rajasthan studio as well as the artist for introducing them to such a unique art form.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
