Rooftop – Where India Inspires Creativity

Islamic Art Illustration Workshop With Keya Patel

Islamic Illustration Art Workshop

Islamic Art Illustration Workshop: Islamic art has a rich history of 1300 years. It is often characterized by recurrent motifs, such as the use of geometrical floral or vegetal designs in a repetition known as the arabesque. It can be seen in the various monuments and museums across India built during the Mughal Era, this is a unique form of art. In contemporary times, this art is found in rugs, carpets, metalwork and even textile. Therefore, to give a deeper insight into Islamic art, Rooftop curated an Islamic Art Illustration Workshop and invited Keya Patel. She is an artist and an Art Educator who is currently based in Oman. She is an ex-corporate professional who further went on to pursue her passion for art. Through her art lessons, she aims to spread art love and get people of all ages to stay creative.

The Islamic Art Illustration Workshop Began

Keya Began the workshop by showing a picture of a monument that is located in Fatehpur Sikri – a small town near Agra City. We created a replica of the geometrical window design in this workshop. She started by drawing five intersecting circles and connecting each of the circles with horizontal, vertical and straight lines. Throughout the experience, Keya was very patient and elaborative with her explanation. All the 55 participants belonging to different age groups were able to keep up with the pace and draw exactly the way she did. Participants joined us from various parts of India and a few from the UAE and Pakistan as well! Subsequently, Keya proceeded to trace the final few lines on the tracing sheet.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

The participants asked for suggestions regarding this unique art form and consequently, Keya shared a few tips with them. The enthusiastic participants completed their Islamic Art Illustrations and flashed their artwork on their cameras within the given time frame.

Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

Here’s us signing off!
