Gond Art Workshop with Tajinder Kohli

Gond art

Gond Art is a form of painting from folk and tribal art. Gond comes from the Dravidian expression, Kond which means ‘the green mountain’. It can best be described as ‘on line work’. Lines are used in such a way that it conveys a sense of movement to the still images. To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a special workshop and invited Tajinder Kohli.

Three years back Tajinder Kohli started her art journey. She chose her passion as a profession and started her brand @_khalaq_ which simply means creativity explaining what one wants to do, that is to create. Tajinder creates by trying different mixing styles and coming up with her own creations. She wants to diffuse positivity and can motivate everyone around her. Her mantra in life is “follow what your heart says, just keep creating and living your life to the fullest.”

Gond Art Workshop Began

Tajinder began the workshop with an introduction of Gond art. She told us about the different ways in which the outlining could be done . Moving on she started drawing and explained each step in detail. While Gond paintings are considered to be predominantly from Madhya Pradesh, it is also quite common in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

She also mentioned that the beauty of gond art comes out when the drawing is  filled with the colours and it enhances it more. She made three peacocks and she created some simple drawings and nature figures to show the attendees.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Most of the attendees were successful in making their Gond-style peacocks. The attendees were very excited to showcase their work. She also taught dotting techniques in a simple and easiest way. The overall experience was very delightful and everyone was elated by the experience.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan Studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
