Rooftop – Where India Inspires Creativity

Gond Art Workshop with Nitisha Trivedi

Gond art

Gond Art is one of the many handicraft art forms that prevail in India. The word “Gond” comes from the Dravidian expression ‘kond’, meaning “the green mountain”. Story-telling appears to be a substantial element of these paintings. This art form has a lot of  admirers from all over the globe. Infact, we can say that it is more valued outside India, while here only a handful of artists remember our traditional art form. To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a special Gond Art Workshop and invited Nitisha Trivedi.

Nitisha Trivedi is the face behind @articulations_ . She is currently pursuing architecture and she loves to practice different folk arts of India. She started her art journey when she learned to hold a pencil, and through all these years practiced her profession with creative experimentations in different mediums.

This lockdown gave her an opportunity to explore her interest in tribal and folk arts of India. She started with Gond art, and eventually learned 8-9 different folk arts of India. Beyond folk arts, she also creates Mandala’s, calligraphy , watercolor and digital illustrations.

Gond Art Workshop Began

Nitisha began the experience by narrating a tale of the history of Gond Art. All the  attendees paid attention and noted all the key points. Nitisha also informed the attendees about the traditional method of preparing natural pigments. Further, she demonstrated how to draw an outline of the deer. She explained the drawing in parts making it easy to replicate. Nitisha associates gond art more with nature.

She used poster colours to paint the deer. Additionally, she also explained the technique of painting and elaborated everything. She created some simple drawings and nature figures to show the attendees. She also taught different ways of drawing leaves.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Most of the attendees were successful in making their Gond-style peacocks. The attendees were very excited to showcase their work. The artist also taught dotting techniques in a simple and easiest way. The overall experience was very delightful and everyone was elated by the experience.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan Studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
