Gond Art Workshop: Gond Art is a form of painting from folk and tribal art. Gond comes from the Dravidian expression, Kond which means ‘the green mountain’. To experience this traditional painting style, Rooftop curated a Gond Art Workshop and invited Parul Kathuria. She is a self-taught artist and is also very passionate about traditional Indian paintings. Parul has been practising various forms of Indian paintings like the Madhubani, Gond, Warli, Pattachitra etc. and has tried to contemporize these styles using plywood.
The Gond Art Workshop Began
Parul began the experience by narrating a tale of the history of Gond Art. All the 35 attendees paid attention and noted all the key points. Parul also informed the attendees about the traditional method of preparing natural pigments. She demonstrated how to draw an outline of the peacock. She explained the drawing in parts making it easy to replicate. Moving forward, Parul began to paint the base layer of the peacock using acrylic colours. She painted the body and the feather with flat colours. Then, Parul demonstrated how to add textures using four continuous semi-circular strokes of any other colour. She highlighted the strokes adding dots.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
At the end of the gond art workshop, most of the attendees were successful in making their Gond style peacocks. The attendees were very excited to showcase their work over the camera. The attendees quickly finished the gond art and displayed them on the camera. The overall experience was very insightful and interesting.
All the attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
