Decoupage Workshop: Decoupage is a very old and popular Art form originated in Europe. It has become the most popular art among crafters nowadays. To experience this art form with abundant possibilities, Rooftop curated a Decoupage Workshop and invited Dimpy Tekwani, who is Jaipur based freelance artist and crafter. She is a textile designer and has learnt various art forms in a span of 15 years. Dimpy enjoys creating new things and experimenting, she finds an escape from the world and enters into her own happy crafting cocoon.
The Decoupage Workshop Began
Dimpy began the experience by briefing about decoupage and the possibilities to recreate pieces of wood, glass, plastic and metal. She explained all the materials needed and suggested some alternatives and also shared sources to procure the materials. All the 25 attendees carefully observed and made notes. Dimpy began to demonstrate the artwork on a wooden MDF cutout. She calls decoupage, “The art of pasting and blending”.
Dimpy began to prep the wooden surface applying a white coat. Meanwhile, she explained the number of coats for various materials like metals, plastics, glass etc. using the german tissue paper she cut out the shape. Moving forward, Dimpy demonstrated the edging technique. Using the cutout shape and applying water and softening the edges to make the tissue look more natural. Once the edges were smooth, she stuck the tissue to the MDF board using mod podge. Dimpy applied a second layer on the top with mod podge over the tissue. She covered the MDF board using sap green, pink and white using the tapping technique to give a marble effect.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
At the end of the workshop, some of the attendees had created their decoupage pieces. Every attendee had tried the art form on different material and object. The attendees were very excited to showcase the pieces over the camera. Dimpy looked at all the pieces and shared individualistic tips and hacks to enhance the art piece. She motivated all the attendees to try the art form. The experience was very interesting.
The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
