Bottle art workshop with deepsikha kalita

The nationwide lockdown triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic should be considered a boon and it surely deserves some credit for bringing out the creativity of people. Many turned this adversity into an ocean of opportunities for pursuing their passion and tried something new within the four walls of their home. Bottle art is not just eco-friendly but also gives a new lease of life to used bottles after a creative makeover. To teach this art form to enthusiasts from different parts of the world, Rooftop conducted a Bottle Art Workshop with artist Deepsikha Kalita.

About the Artist

Deepsikha Kalita is from Assam and practises various kinds of art forms. She has always shown a keen interest in the arts. It has become her passion. She now conducts workshops to impart her artistic knowledge and skills to people.

The Bottle Art Workshop Began

The workshop began with an introduction to Deepsikha and her artistic journey. She not only heartily welcomed all the participants of the workshop but also gave an insight into bottle art and its practical applications.

Deepsikha recreated one of her creations. She had already painted the bottle white to create an even base layer. She then started painting a portrait of a woman on it. She added eyes and nose to the portrait and then coloured the skin. Deepsikha used shades of red and yellow for painting the outfit and then moved on to painting the woman’s hair. She advised the attendees to add borders to the eyes and lips after painting the basic figures. She also drew a mang tika on the forehead of the portrait. Finally, she coloured the background of the bottle with a shade of yellow to complement the women’s outfit.

Towards the End of the Workshop

As the workshop progressed, the attendees got engrossed in creating their own bottle artworks. Once complete, they shared them with Deepsikha. She appreciated their creativity and hard work. The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The attendees thanked Deepsikha for teaching such a beautiful art form and making the learning process fun and engaging.
