Warli paintings get their name from the tribal community which resides in the northern part of the Sahyadri Range in Maharashtra, mainly in Thane and Palghar districts with Dahanu and Jawhar at the front. Warli dates back to the 10th Century AD. Warli paintings have traditionally been used by the tribals to decorate the walls of their mud houses on special occasions like harvest and weddings. The most important feature of these paintings is that it doesn’t depict any mythological deities but represents the circle of life and respect for nature, agriculture and wildlife.

The Circle Community conducted an Authentic Warli Mandala Workshop with Shweta Jain.

The Workshop Began

The workshop started off with the host introducing Shweta and her journey. Shweta thanked the host for the introduction and drew four lines on a sheet. She went on to make Warli figures out of them using a distinct technique. She continued sketching birds, monkeys, Lord Ganesha and Lord Brahma. She continued creating some circles, sketching the Warli designs with a black outliner and burned the edges of the paper and showed the design to the participants.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Shweta showed her Warli artwork to the participants. All the attendees showed their co-created Warli art sketches. Shweta appreciated the artworks of all the participants. The host thanked Shweta for sharing her experience about Warli painting.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
