Tapestry is an ancient art form that has been prominent for several years. Weaving decorative fabric is textile-based art. The varied beauty of colourful threads is what attracts many to this craft. To discover more about tapestry, Rooftop conducted a Tapestry Workshop with Nikita Chordiya.
About The Artist
Nikita is a textile design student and has been creating different styles of art. Tapestry has been the most fun and meditative art for her. She finds immense joy in teaching this craft to others.
The Tapestry Workshop Began
After collecting the required woollen threads and a circular hoop, Nikita began Tapestry Workshop by explaining the basic workings of weaving a tapestry. She began with the over and under technique to create a chakra-like structure around the loop. This structure is the base layer around which different designs are created. She chose a blue shade of woollen thread, to begin with. The next pattern was created with a soumak weave.
Working with tapestry can be complicated for beginners, but Nikita made sure to go over each detail to get the perfect patterns. Weaving is a slow process and learning can be tricky but all the attendees looked forward to creating one for themselves.
Towards the End Of The Tapestry Workshop
To give an idea about the endless possibilities of tapestry, Nikita displayed some of her previous artwork. Everyone appreciated her insights and tips for improvement.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
