Rooftop x CCRT: A New Way Forward

CCRT collaboration with Rooftop

Wondering what is CCRT and why is Rooftop writing about them? Well, read ahead and find out!

CCRT is an institution that links education with culture and is backed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Centre for Cultural Research and Training or CCRT offers a variety of theoretical academic programmes that focus on the cultural diversity of India.

Did you know that when CCRT relocated their office to Dwarka, they were the only campus there and had just one bus running their route? They’ve seen Dwarka develop!

Apart from this nugget of trivia, let’s focus on their humongous campus which is home to some beautifully painted murals. One can see murals on folk and indigenous art forms like Gond, Chittara, Madhubani, Warli, and Cheriyal! Amongst the many elements that add personality to their campus is the huge park that is covered with luscious green grass and sunny marigolds!

In fact, marigolds, wild chrysanthemums, and other soothing flowers and potted greenery can be spotted throughout the campus. The reason for such a green environment is that the chairman and the director, Dr Vinod Narayan Indurkar and Mr Rishi Vashishth pledged to have a green and botanical campus!

Amongst all the plants and beautiful murals, they also have an art gallery where artists can apply to exhibit their paintings! They also have two canteens, one inside the building and one outside in a shed near the garden (talk about enjoying your meal with a scenic view!).

CCRT has centres all over India. They’re strategically placed regionally in prime locations such as Udaipur, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Damod. Their objective behind locating their centres in these areas is to:

  1. Provide mobile libraries and resource units to visit tribal, rural and semi-urban schools.
  2. Provide cultural education to school students/youth/teachers/teacher educators throughout the county.
  3. Collect cultural resources in the form of audio-visuals, written texts, recordings, etc
  4. Produce materials on cultural education for use in schools and community projects.
  5. Provide assistance to other related institutions in the area of literacy campaigns women’s education, physically disadvantaged and for economically and physically deprived.
  6. Encourage and help craft persons, traditional performing artists and other creative people by providing training facilities and scholarships.

Along with offering programmes on cultural themes, they also have provisions for scholarships. Scholarships for children between the ages of 10 to 14 can apply for the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme which provides facilities to outstanding talented children of the age group of 10 to 14 years studying either in recognised schools or belonging to families practising traditional performing arts for getting specialised training in various cultural fields such as traditional forms of music, dance, drama, painting, sculpture, crafts, and literary activities. The second scheme of scholarship that they offer is for people between the ages of 18 to 24. This is called the “Award of Scholarships to Young Artistes (SYA) in Different Cultural Fields”. Under this, 400 scholarships are provided in the age group of 18 to 25 years in the field of Indian Classical Music, Classical Dances, Light Classical Music, Theatre, Visual Arts and Folk/ Traditional and Indigenous Arts. More information for all the above can be found here.

That being said, we are immensely proud to announce that as of 24th January 2023, CCRT signed an MOU with Rooftop which opens so many avenues in which we will be working collaboratively on advancing the cultural ethos of our nation!

Furthermore, we plan on conducting on-campus workshops with our master artists on themes aligning with the traditional, folk, and indigenous art forms. We also are looking forward to having CCRT on board with our maestro courses, and other tangible fascets of Indian traditional art forms!

Stay tuned for a lot more on this front! Joins us on our socials and keep an eye out for many exciting events!
