Phad Painting Workshop By Vijay Joshi

India is a country of rich and vibrant cultural heritage. And paintings are a big part of Indian culture. More than 700 years old, Phad painting originated in the Bilwara region of Rajasthan. Phad painting workshop is a style of religious scroll painting and folk painting. This style of painting is traditionally done on a long piece of cloth or canvas, known as ‘phad‘.

To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a special workshop and invited Vijay Joshi. 

Vijay Joshi, the 13th generation practitioner, is a traditional Phad Artist with a touch of modernity. He finds solace in this art form. Shanti Lal Joshi, father of Vijay Joshi has been a National Award winner in 1991. Now, Vijay Joshi has whole-heartedly undertaken the task of establishing the existence of Phad Paintings throughout the world. 

Phad Painting Workshop Began

Vijay Joshi started the workshop with an elaborate history and origin of Phad painting and everything that is to know about the art form. He shared about his family’s contribution and history in this particular art form. 

Vijay Joshi shared about his experience and approach to the art form. He gave elaborate step by step instruction of the process. He started painting and explaining the steps of the process to be followed. 

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Vijay Joshi monitored the progress of the attendees from time to time and gave his insightful feedback. He was very open to any kind of question relating to the art form. He also showcased some of his previous and recent artworks. The attendees were happy to see those artworks. The workshop concluded with everyone showcasing their work. 

The attendees were also from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
