Persian Illumination Workshop With Ankita Agrawal

Persian Illumination

Persian Illumination, also known as ā€˜Tehzipā€™, is an ancient art form that is currently developing its way back into style. This Islamic art used for decorating and ornamenting scripts takes time to master. The fusion of geometric molds and floral motifs gives a very detailed appearance to the artwork. To learn more about the basics of this art, the Rooftop conducted a Persian Illumination Workshop with Ankita Agrawal.

About The Artist

Ankita has been a professional artist for more than seven years and owns a label called ā€˜art_ickleā€™. She is currently working on visual arts with various mediums. She strongly believes that inner happiness gives a path of growth and art is not what you see but what you live.

The Persian Illumination Workshop Began

To introduce the process of Persian illumination, Ankita spoke about some basic techniques. The most suitable pencil for delicate strokes according to her is the 6B lead which provides a gradient effect. She taught four different methods of strokes and emphasized working on pen pressure control. She gave a primary understanding of smooth transitions and curves that are a focal point to avoid any breakpoints along the lines.

After practising these basic strokes, she applied them to create key elements like flowers, leaves, and buds. She believes that a free-flowing pattern is essential to show the elegance of a design. She created a composition of such elements to make a floral and symmetric Persian illumination.Ā Ā

Towards The End Of The Persian Illumination Workshop

Akshata displayed some of her previous works comprising a numerous variety of drawings. In the end, everyone shared their work for feedback. Akshata advised everyone on areas that need to be improved and the efforts put in by each of the attendees were spectacular.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.Ā

On this note, hereā€™s us signing off until next time!
