Madhubani Painting & Santhal Art Workshop By Preethi Dineshkumar

Madhubani Painting & Santhal Art Workshop By Preethi Dineshkumar

Originating from the Mithila region, Madhubani Art Form is a spectacular geometrical painting with recurrent motifs such as fishes, birds, women, Lord Krishna, elephants, and peacocks.

Santhal Paintings have simple themes like weddings, harvest, music, and daily rituals but the colours and artistic imagination bring alive the most mundane. These tribal paintings are drawn by a special community called Jadu Patua or magic painters in the Santhal Paragana district of Bengal/Bihar borders.

To educate and give a comprehensive understanding of these two unique art forms, Rooftop curated a workshop for the Circle Members and invited Preethi Dineshkumar. Preethi is a researcher who turned an artist. She teaches students about these ancient yet beautiful art forms.

Madhubani Painting & Santhal Art Workshop Began

This workshop is a part of Rajasthan Studio’s fusion series and continued for two days. Preethi started this workshop with the 2000 years old art form that is Madhubani Painting. She gave an embellished introduction for the same which kept the attending on their toes for the whole workshop.

Preethi did not just step right into painting the piece instead give a history of this art form and how & why this art form originated. The first day of the workshop was all about the process of making Madhubani Painting.

Towards the end of the Workshop

The second day of the workshop began firstly with the attendees displaying their Madhubani paintings which were exceptionally beautiful. Then Preethi took over to explain the Santhal Art form. She gave a difference between both the art forms and inform her attendees that the second day would be about tribal art. The session concluded with feedback and a Q&A session by our lovely attendees. The session was quite a wonderful experience for all the budding artists.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
