Madhubani Art originates from the Madhubani district of Bihar, India. It has been named after the district it originated in. Popularly it is also known as Maithili Art. The art is observed as a pious gesture that has been followed up for years. The women in Bihar, practice this art during festive occasions symbolising it as a sign of a good omen. 

Madhubani art has 5 major types. They are as follows:- 

  • Bharni 
  • Kachani
  • Tantrik 
  • Godna 
  • Kohbar

About the Artist:- 

Rachna Vijaykumar Bankapur is a commercial artist and an inspiring art teacher who has been teaching for the last 14 years. She’s a great learner as well as currently getting her hands strongly clear on Madhubani Art for the previous 2 years. 

The Workshop Began:- 

The Madhubani in Katchni Style Workshop Began with the host introducing Rachna Bankapur. On successful introduction, mentor Rachna Bankapur took over the workshop and enlightened attendees with a detailed overview of Madhubani Art. 

The art form she created was in Katchni Style. Further it consisted of several geometric shapes and sizes that were put together to create a striking set of patterns. The final outcome created by the mentor was truly mesmerizing. In between, she also used her time to interact with and assist attendees who were co-creating. 

Towards the end of the Madhubani in Kachani Style workshop:- 

The Madhubani in Kachani Style art was wonderfully created. It was a fun engagement session where every creative mind came up with their best. The attendees were from different aspects of life, and different ages and together gave it their best. 

In the end, the participants who co-created the art form with the mentor were highlighted and constructive feedback was shared by the master herself. It was another truly inspiring milestone achieved by Rooftop
