Kalamezhuthu Workshop By Deepti Porwal

Kalamezhutu

Kalamezhuthu is an ancient art form originated in Kerala, India. It is a ritualistic art practiced mostly in temples and sacred groves of Kerala. This art form is created on the floor using natural pigments and powders, usually in five colors. Get a chance to learn this traditional art form in the modern way by painting it on canvas and using acrylic colors without losing the traditional touch to it. To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a special workshop and invited Deepti Porwal.

Deepti is situated in Dehradun. She is an artist, a teacher and a hobby professional and is skilled in various art forms and is passionate about Indian traditional art forms. She is also a freelance artist.

Kalamezhuthu Workshop Began

Deepti began the workshop by giving a brief introduction about Kalamezhuthu art form. She spoke about its origin ,the meaning of the word Kalamezhuthu , about the ways its done and what it signifies. She was so elaborate about the importance of the art and the types of colors used in it .She showed them few of the paintings she had made as she was going to painting Bhadrakali goddess. Then she began sketching with proper measurements and advising the attendees how they could make changes according to their sheet size.

She showed how they should go with the face,the body ,the waist. As their were lots of detailing required she kept on elaborating each step. After she finished with the sketch she turned towards the coloring and the importance aspect of the painting. She began painting with the face by keeping the paints in a water consistent. She finished with the body parts and then started with the other parts of the sketch. After she was done with painting she began with the detailing part of the painting.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Towards the end of the workshop Deepti had a look at everyone’s painting and gave them some tips to make it look more beautiful and detailed at the same time. She was very happy looking at the attendees artwork and the attendees very equally endorsed in making the painting. The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
