Cyanotype Printmaking Workshop with Sakshi Lunked

Cyanotype: Printmaking in a day by sakshi Lunked

Cyanotype is a cameraless photographic printing process that was invented in 1842 by scientist and astronomer Sir John Hirschel. It produces a cyan blueprint when a chemically coated surface is exposed to sunlight. Julia Whitney Barnes has created botanical pieces combining cyanotype, watercolour, and gouache. Enjoy this Cyanotype Printmaking workshop and try some for yourself.

Rooftop conducted an innovative and engaging workshop to learn this distinct art form with Sakshi Lunked.

About  The Artist

Sakshi Lunked is 21 years old and hails from the IT city of India, Bangalore. She manages her own startup venture and is pursuing her Bachelor’s studies in Fine Arts. She showcases her artwork on Instagram.

The Workshop Began

The workshop began with an introduction of Sakshi, who began with explaining how this artwork has a ratio of 2:5 for the mixture of Cyanotype painting. She advised everyone to follow the safety measures such as using gloves and masks for this art form.

She mixed distilled water into the solution until all the granules dissolved, which later turned into a yellow solution. She then applied a cyanotype yellow colour on the paper.

Sakshi advised one can place flowers and leaves on the paper and keep it inside the frame. She also taught the participants how to create art from negative images and explained how the colour changes in cyanotype printmaking.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Sakshi answered all the participants’ questions and answered their queries patiently. All the participants had a lovely time learning the art form and co-creating the artwork with Sakshi.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
