Born in 1959 in Rajasthan, India, Mahaveer Swami hails from a lineage of traditional Bikaner artists. From an early age, he received training from his father and grandfather, and later completed a Diploma in Painting & Sculpture at the Rajasthan School of Art in Jaipur.
With remarkable originality and brilliance, he revived the sophisticated and refined Bikaner School of Painting, setting himself apart from contemporary miniaturists. Mahaveer Swami's artistic approach bears a strong influence from his studies of Mughal and Rajasthan Miniatures. His preferred subjects often revolve around the lifestyles of ascetic individuals, and the daily life of Indian women, and occasionally draw from Hindu mythological themes.
Having garnered numerous awards, his artwork has found extensive exposure in prestigious galleries across various Indian cities and internationally, including exhibitions at Gallery Lafayette in Paris and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, among others. Currently based in Bikaner, the artist conducts his creative endeavours from his studio in the city.
