Watercolor Painting: Watercolour is an ancient form of painting. In this painting, colors mix with water on the brush to communicate a message through the canvas. It is one of the most primitive types of painting; these are fun, cost-effective with lots of possibilities for creative self-expression. Shalini Karanpura is a self- taught artist who loves to experiment with her paintings and yield a variety of results.

The beginning of the workshop

For many artists like Shalini, painting takes them away from the stress of mundane life and gets the creative juices flowing. Keeping that in mind, the main subject of this workshop was to let the imagination flow of the participants. They created a star galaxy of any color combination. Before painting the canvas, Shalini demonstrated two different techniques of painting with watercolors. She also explained the type of brushes, colors, and sheets to bring to use. As these paintings were based on imagination, Shalini taught us how to prepare our sheet. Without wasting any time, participants started stroking different colors on their sheets.

Once all the participants had covered their sheets in colors, these sheets were kept aside to dry!

The second painting of the workshop was to create a rose out of watercolours, using two brushes instead of the usual one. 

Towards the end of the workshop

The rose canvases were set aside to dry. It was once again time to work on the galaxy canvas to sprinkle the white paint on it. For this, a hard bristle brush to give the effect of stars. Our very own start galaxy was ready! 

Shalini also shared a few tips on how to highlight the petals of the rose painting and how to give shadow.
