Rooftop – Where India Inspires Creativity

Warli Lettering Workshop with Deval Haria

Warli Lettering

Hand lettering is one of the most unique and creative ways to express one’s thoughts and creativity. It has been a part of the art and culture of many civilizations around the world. Warli lettering is such an old cultural treasure that’s been practised in Maharashtra and India for a very long time.

In order to make the Circle family aware of the art form, Rooftop organized an interactive workshop with expert artist Deval Haria.

About The Artist

Deval Haria is a lawyer and a company secretary by profession. She loves cooking, travelling, and learning new languages and is an ardent art enthusiast. Her love for tribal arts knows no bounds, which is why she devoted herself to learning the famous Warli art and lettering.

And The Workshop Began

The workshop began with a short introduction to Deval and her experiences. To start with, Deval expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the attendees and the Rooftop. Then, without further ado, she elaborated on the history and origin of Warli art and lettering. She explained all the basic steps involved in the art and started drawing. She drew alphabets and started giving each alphabet a story as if they were coming alive. Deval’s way of explaining was very unique and quite fun, which had the attendees very engaged. The session was very interactive and a lot of tips were shared by the artist. Attendees also posted their recommendations of letters in the session. The session then headed towards its completion.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

As the session progressed towards its end, the attendees were able to understand the importance of the art and the way of storytelling through the use of letters. At last, each attendee shared their work with Deval for feedback and she found everyone’s artwork beautiful and full of effort. The attendees loved the workshop and interaction with Deval, while Deval felt very happy and joyous after meeting like-minded people who shared the same passion for art. The workshop ended on an appreciative note for both Deval and TCC.

The participants were from different parts of India and belonged to various age groups, but were united by their love and passion for art which eventually brought them to one platform. Rooftop was once again successful in curating an amazing experience for art lovers and creating memories to be cherished for a long time.

On that note, here’s us signing off until next time!
