Macrame Plant Hanger Workshop With Ritvi Mishra

Macrame Plant Hanger

Macrame is an art based on different knotting techniques. It is a utility art as people use it to create things like mats, potholders, wall-hangings, and more. The dramatic patterns give a bohemian and naturistic vibe. To find out more about this distinct art, The Circle Community conducted a workshop with Ritvi Mishra.

About the Artist

Ritvi discovered her infatuation with macrame with a simple telephone mat at the age of 9. Her skills have evolved over the last twelve years. She loves to share the joy of creating this amazing art. In her opinion, it is a rewarding experience to see more people get invested in making sustainable art.

The Workshop Began

Only with a few threads and a hoop, Ritvi began to teach how to make a charming potholder or plant hanger. As tying knots would shorten the length of the thread, she advised taking double the length, to begin with. The thread used for the art must not be too thin as it requires friction and rough texture to hold the pot.

Taking six strings and tying them onto the loop, she went ahead to instruct about the knots. She taught two types of knots- a twisted pattern and a square knot. Both of which can be used depending on which is suitable to the artist. After creating a mesh-like structure, she created a base to hang the pot. To give a decorative look, she added some beads which were held together using an alternative knot.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

There were quite a few confusing patterns but Ritvi made sure to clarify the doubts of the attendees and clearly explain the basics. Soon after, they became comfortable with knots and prepared a lovely plant hanger for themselves.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
