Nagaland Cloth Painting Workshop with Anju Varma

Nagaland Cloth painting workshop

Nagaland Cloth Painting is a legendary art form done by the Tribal community of Nagaland. These artworks are dedicated to the heroic deeds of the warriors of the region. Previously, the artwork was done by weaving and painting. Currently, however, the tribals only make it in the form of the painting. The element of imperfection for the figure sketching makes it unique. The main motifs are elephants and peculiar borders.

To make this unique art form popular among art enthusiasts around the world, The Circle Community conducted an interactive workshop on Nagaland Cloth Painting with expert artist Anju Varma.

About The Artist

Anju Varma holds her expertise in fabric painting. She not only loves painting but is also a dance enthusiast. She is the founder and host of art drama designs.

The Workshop Began

The workshop began with the hosts introducing Anju and her journey as an artist. Anju welcomed all the participants to the workshop and showed her work on a tote bag as a reference design to create the artwork. She fixed the plain white cloth into the hoop and began drawing with a pencil. She explained the border design with figures of birds and flowers. Firstly, everything was bordered with black color. Further bright shades of crimson red, Prussian blue, cadmium yellow, parrot green, and light blue made the appearance of the design flamboyant.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Anju shared some important tips by quoting the slogan ‘Be Indian, paint Indian’. All the attendees were delighted in showing their colorful designs to Anju. The attendees as well as Anju enjoyed the light session.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
