Lippan art is a clay art form that is from the state of Gujarat, India. It is done by the village ladies from Kutch in order to decorate their homes. Traditionally, Lippan is made by adding mud and cow dung to the walls. In Lippan art, the intricate patterns use glass pieces to create designs. The mirror work on the walls in Kutch homes looks traditional yet modern.

To make this art form widely popular among the masses, The Rooftop Community conducted an interactive workshop on Lippan Art with expert artist Arpita Dhurve.

The Workshop Began

The workshop began with a brief introduction of Arpita and her artistic journey. Arpita greeted all the participants and thanked the host for the introduction. She began by giving an insight into Lippan Art and its history and then proceeded to create the artwork. She first used circular cardboard and painted it in white colour. She further made circular patterns with black clay on them and painted them in white colour. Later, she stuck tiny mirrors on them, which made the artwork look quite elegant.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

As the workshop progressed, Arpita further decorated the artwork to give the feel of the authentic Lippan Art on the traditional houses in Kutch. She motivated the participants to create their own artworks and also assisted them with their queries. The host thanked Arpita for teaching the art form in such a fun and easy manner.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop , as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
