Pastels, also called dry pastels, are a widely used drawing medium mainly executed with flimsy sticks which are the size of a finger. This art form originated in Italy in the 16th century and became popular with many artists of Europe. Pastels are created by combining powdered pigments with a binder which is non-greasy in nature like gum tragacanth or methylcellulose. Throughout its composition, it carries equal values of pigment and binder. Finally, when applied to the paper, they appear all fresh and bright. Pastels stay on the surface of the paper, making it easy to obliterate. This art form is very soothing and relaxing and creating artwork is quite fun.
To introduce our Circle family to the mystical and relaxing effects of the art form, TCC curated an amazing session and invited expert artist Elizabeth John to facilitate the workshop.
About The Artist
Elizabeth John is an ardent art enthusiast who loves to create beautiful artworks that are mesmerizing and have an appealing nature. She is a Fashion Stylist by profession and an artist by passion. Her love for art knows no bounds as she started drawing at the early age of 9. With time, she practised, kept enhancing her skills, and garnered an ample amount of knowledge and experience. She loves sharing her experiences and knowledge with fellow enthusiasts through workshops.
And The Workshop Began
The workshop began with a brief introduction to Elizabeth and her journey as an artist. Elizabeth then greeted and expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the attendees. She started the workshop with a glimpse into the significance of the art form including its therapeutic benefits and what to expect from the session. After introducing the art form, she started to create the artwork from scratch. Elizabeth suggested drawing and outlining the figure side by side to maintain symmetry. She demonstrated each step in a very detailed manner to make it easy for the attendees to grasp. The attendees were very engrossed in the process as they were co-creating with her. During the workshop, Elizabeth shared some very useful information and tips with the attendees when performing shading to avoid any mistakes.
Towards the End of The Workshop
As the workshop progressed towards completion, the attendees co-created the artwork and presented it to Elizabeth for feedback, who found each of them very beautiful and full of effort. The workshop concluded with attendees thanking Elizabeth for teaching the whole art form in such an easy and fun manner.
The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to various age groups, but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. TCC, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a positive and magical vibe altogether.
