African Mural Workshop With Vidhi Joshi

African Mural

African murals appear with elements that mirror the traditional African society and their culture. This art is depicted with figures clothed in bright colours and unique designs. Murals are ambiguous and ephemeral in nature, which is why this artwork is well-suited for decor. To discover more about this style, The Circle Community conducted a workshop with Vidhi Joshi.

About the Artist

Vidhi embarked on her journey with art at a young age and nature has always been her inspiration and teacher through the years. She believes that when colours come together, all they do is create magic. Currently, she is pursuing her degree in therapy and has comprehended art forms like acrylic, mural, and many more.

The Workshop Began

Vidhi listed some basic materials required for the mural such as air-dry clay or mold, a printout of sketch, resin, hardener, and a canvas. Her first step was to make a dough of mold and knead it until it turned white in colour. Next, she laid the mold onto the canvas and traced it well enough to cover the sketch properly.

To create the clothes, she flattened the mold using a rolling pin and evenly spread it onto the figures. She gave some effects to it so that the clothes stand out with a realistic look. She also explained how one can create some texture by using a toothpick to curate designs. When painting, she used bright primary colours on the figures and gave the background a sunset shade.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

This is a DIY art that can be made with reusable items and gives the artist the liberty to make any shape or size of figures. This session was an atypical experience for everyone and the attendees were eager to make a mural for their home décor.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Rooftop community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
