Saura painting is a style of wall mural paintings practiced by the Saura tribes of Odisha, India. These paintings are similar to Warli paintings and hold religious significance for Sauras. In recent times this art form has gained popularity. People use this art form to design t-shirts, diaries and other decorative items.
To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this modern art form. Rajasthan Studio curated a Saura Art Workshop and invited Aayushi Shah.
Aayushi Shah a design student by profession, Fevicryl Certified Teacher, an artist and a certified graphologist. Aayushi’s forte in practicing heritage and folk art forms from across the globe, in a means to bring them back from the lost. I am a self-taught artist practicing since 2 years but, my art journey started this lockdown when I decided to share and spread the knowledge for these beautiful arts and since then, the journey is on.
Saura Art Workshop Began
We started with the introduction of Artist and artist interacted with everyone regarding the art form. Artists instructed to make 0.5 Cm border on all the four sides to create a very popular saura horse which was the king’s favourite. King of Odisha was fond of his horse and the original painting is worth lakh Rupees. It was also worshipped like a god by the saura tribe. Artist firstly made the face of the horse and then the body of the horse. Further we started with the intricate designing and strokes of the saura art and the horse with the white pen on a black piece of paper.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
Artists gave all the learnings of saura art and gave so much knowledge about creating different strokes, patterns, designs which was enjoyed and appreciated by the attendees. The most crucial design of saura art is the eye as shared by the artist and she beautifully decorates the eye and completes the art piece with some new interesting designs. She displayed her other artworks and the session was informative and everyone enjoyed the workshop and this art form. We spotlighted and the artist loved and was impressed with the attendees.
The attendees seemed immersed in the workshop and thanked Rajasthan studio as well as the artist for introducing them to such a unique art form. The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
