Rooftop – Where India Inspires Creativity

Resin Tray Workshop With Smita Sharma

Resin Tray Workshop

Resin Tray Workshop: Resin is a two-component system consisting of resin and hardener. By mixing the two components, a chemical reaction takes place where the liquid resin gradually hardens into a solid plastic. To understand this process in detail, Rooftop curated a Resin Tray Workshop and invited Smita Sharma. To keep up her passion for art, she works extensively on Resin Art and has turned her love for art into her profession.

The Resin Tray Workshop Began

Smita began the experience by briefing about the materials. She patiently demonstrated how to mix the resin and hardener in the required ratios to prepare the liquid resin.  All 25 attendees observed and took notes. While preparing the mixture, Smita shared a few important safety precautionary measures one should take, such as covering eyes and face as resin can be hazardous to health. Then, Smita prepared the colour pigments and shared some hacks to make DIY pigments using a blend of alcohol ink and wet or dry colours. Eventually, she began to pour the coloured mixture in layers over the wooden tray. Layer by layer she added definition to the art piece. Using a heat gun Smita showed how to remove any bubbles or rectify mistakes.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

By the end of the experience, Smita briefed all the attendees on the drying process for the resin layer and how to coat it after about 24 hours for the final finishing. A few attendees had managed to complete their resin art pieces. The attendees showcased them over the camera. Smita loved the abstract free-flowing pieces that the attendees made. It was a fun, educational and very insightful experience.

The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on one platform.

Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
