Origami Bookmarks Workshop With Sanya Kukreja

Origami Bookmarks Workshop

Whether it’s drawing on paper or folding it, both ways are fun and creative art experiences. Origami, the art of folding paper by Japanese cultural art, is still a prominent form of craft in modern art. People assume it to be a complex process of folding but it doesn’t have to be that way. And a fun way to begin one’s journey with origami for a book lover is to create cute bookmarks that would inspire them to read more. To learn more about this art, The Circle Community conducted a workshop with Sanya Kukreja.

About The Artist

Sanya is a young artist who discovered her love for origami and has created several origami works since then. She likes to experiment with the traditional folding methods. Innovating and improving is her mantra to learn more about origami.

The Workshop Began

Sanya introduced the art form and suggested using three different types of papers for creating bookmarks for the workshop. She believed that each paper would enhance the design in its own way. A square piece of glazed paper was used for the first bookmark. She started off with steps that were easy to follow and soon all the participants co-created the first bookmark. It looked like a triangle-shaped kite that was a single-page holder bookmark.

For the second bookmark, she taught how to make a frog-like design by playing around with the dimensions. And for the finale, she demonstrated how to create a beautiful butterfly with gift wrapping paper and also with cartridge paper. Sanya explained the method of using the crease lines in a careful manner. She maintained the symmetry even though the paper was of delicate material. Presenting the butterfly, she advised them to stick it on a rectangular strip of paper to create a bookmark.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

All the participants were interactive during the session and made various origami artworks by the end of the workshop. Sanya commented how most of the origami artworks begin with a square as they have the perfect diagonal symmetry. She also suggested they explore the different paper materials to find which suits them the best.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
