Marbling art workshop with Srishti Jindal

Marbling Art Workshop

It is a Japanese art form. Suminagashi is a Japanese paper marbling technique. Literally, the word means “ink floating.” Swirling patterns, like those found in natural marble stone, can be created by dropping ink or oil colors on the surface of the water and then placing paper on top to lift the ink.

About the Artist:-

She is an engineer working as a visual artist. She creates what she sees. She uses charcoal and colored pencils. She is currently working on abstract art.

The workshop began:-

The workshop began with Srishti briefing about the medium of colors to be used. Srishti filled water in a broad container up to about half an inch. She just extracted dirt particles on the upper layer of water using a sheet of paper. She mixed turpentine with blue oil color.  She added little blue oil in water slowly which was floating on the surface of the water. She created swirling patterns using a  straw. She took 250 GSM watercolor paper which is very thick and lightly soaked it in water. The soaking was done in a way where only the upper surface of the water comes into contact with the watercolor sheet.

Secondly, she added red oil pigment in water using a plastic spoon to have a circular pattern. Likewise, she added yellow. Using a sharp point she merged them into a wavy design. Again she extracted the design on a watercolor sheet. The third artwork was made with green and yellow in a similar manner.

Towards the end of the workshop:-

She created a fourth marbling art workshop with the use of red and yellow alcohol inks. Srishti shared her other vibrantly colored artworks. She explained on what other surfaces this artwork is useful. The participants enjoyed stress-relieving hours along with playing with colors.

The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
