Madhubani Painting Workshop: Originating from the Mithila region, Madhubani Art Form is a spectacular geometrical painting with recurrent motifs such as fishes, birds, women, Lord Krishna, elephants and peacocks. It also applies the use of fingers, brushes, nib-pens, matchsticks and twig pens and natural dyes to the paintings. Rooftop curated a Madhubani Painting Workshop with Preethi Dineshkumar. A researcher turned Artist for her passion for art, she has been practicing different artforms. She aims to transfer her knowledge about folk art to the next generation.

The Madhubani Painting Workshop Began

Preethi began the Madhubani Painting Workshop by sharing her insights about the folk artform Madhubani and how it originated. Subsequently, she also talked about how Madhubani painting was done traditionally. Starting off with the border, Preethi began drawing the outline of a bride which was the motif of the day. While drawing, Preethi kept narrating the story behind the artwork of the bride. The participants enjoyed the story while working along with her. Next, she used bright acrylic colours to fill up the Madhubani artwork. Adding detailing to the ornaments and accessories, Preeti continued informing the attendees more about the artform.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

The enthusiastic participants completed their Madhubani paintings within the time frame. They flashed their artwork proudly in front of their screens and left Preethi awestruck!
