Madhubani art (or Mithila painting) is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. This painting is done with a variety of tools, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks and using natural dyes and pigments.
To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this modern art form. Rajasthan Studio curated a Madhubani Painting Workshop and invited Pallavi Choudhary.
Mithila/ Madhubani Artist, Illustrator, Craft Designer & folk art promoter. She belongs to the land of this ancient Art form- Mithila (Bihar), currently based in Jodhpur. Pallavi has been working for the promotion of this heritage folk art form in form of seminars & workshops at various design colleges like NIFT, FDDI, INIFD & JD Jodhpur- for 5 years now. She also conducts independent workshops & events to spread awareness about Mithila/ Madhubani Painting. She grew up in an environment, where Mithila/Madhubani Painting is a part of cultural existence. After working in corporate for 7 years, I turned full-time professional with my art career in 2016 with Maithili Chitrakari.
Madhubani Painting Workshop Began
The workshop began with the introduction of Jodhpur and then the artist introduced all the attendees about the art form. She started with a composition of women to which she decorated beautifully like a bride. She shared that Madhubani is a district in Bihar which was named after the mural on the wall found in the ancient times.
Artist the made ghunghat for the women and after kachni she instructed to do bharni.
Artist instructed to paint the lehenga i.e the skirt of the woman. After painting the bride with traditional vibrant bridal colors she then took a piece of paper and taught intricate and beautiful bridal jewellery designs to the attendees in which she mentioned ‘Nath’ being the major ornament.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
At the end of the workshop the Artist displayed her other Madhubani and folk art paintings. Everyone enlightened the artist with their beautiful Artwork where the artist gives a review of where they can improve and appreciate their effort and execution.
Artist displayed her other artworks and everyone enjoyed such an interesting workshop.
The workshop was full of learnings and everyone was elated by the experience.
The attendees seemed immersed in the workshop and thanked Rajasthan studio as well as the artist for introducing them to such a unique art form.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
