Madhubani Art Workshop with Ritu Rao

Madhubani Art workshop with Ritu Rao

India is home to numerous ancient art forms that are practised in different regions throughout the country. One of the most famous folk art that originated in India and created its unique status in the world of art is Madhubani Painting, which finds its roots in the ancient Mithila region of Bihar. Its most ancient mention can be found in the epic poem ‘Ramayana’ from the time of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita’s marriage. The art became very popular with time and many art enthusiasts started practising it. These paintings have many characteristics, one being the complex geometrical patterns that make them stand out from other art forms. This art is also used to represent certain rituals on special occasions like festivals and marriage ceremonies.

TCC organized an amazing session for the Circle family to explore  the mystical and therapeutic art form of Madhubani art (also known as Mithila art) and invited expert artist Ritu Rao to facilitate the workshop.

And The Workshop Began

The workshop began with a brief introduction of Ritu and her journey as an artist. Ritu then greeted and expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the attendees and started the workshop with a brief introduction to the historical background and significance of the Madhubani art form. She then gave an insight into the artwork that she was going to create in the session and listed out some basic specifications of the art form like the use of double lines to create margins of the figures and the structuring of eyes which also laid emphasis on the symmetrical figures. She explained each step in a very detailed manner and demonstrated how to create raw figures. The attendees were very engrossed in the process as they were co-creating with her. As the workshop progressed, Ritu’s artwork started to develop into a very beautiful piece. After finishing the outline figure, Ritu completed border designing and started the colouring process.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

As the workshop progressed towards completion, Ritu demonstrated successfully the styles of “Khachni” and “bharni” in her artwork. The attendees were able to create the artworks which they presented to Ritu for feedback, who found each of them as very beautiful and full of effort. Ritu also showcased some of her previous artworks which were very amazing and strikingly beautiful. The workshop concluded with the attendees thanking Ritu for teaching the whole process in an easy and fun manner.

The attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to various age groups, but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. TCC as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a positive and magical vibe altogether.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
